Some of you know that our son, Joey, is autistic. Because so many people still don’t understand autism, we do all that we can to help others become more aware of the disorder. A better understanding will help families recognize the signs of autism in their loved ones, and it will help other people be more compassionate when they encounter children and adults with the disorder.
It was several years before Joey’s diagnosis and if I knew what I know now, it would have been identified much earlier. Today, Joey is thriving and he’s such a blessing for our family. For me, he’s helped me be more patient, more compassionate, stronger and wiser.
At ICON14 in April, we offered copies of my book, Confessions of a Mompreneur, for a $10 donation. All proceeds went to the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), and we raised $450 for this worthwhile organization. If you’d like to make a contribution to SARRC, you can do so through its website.
