Celebrating Dad

Dad's DayWe moms got our day last month and in just a couple of weeks, it’s Dad’s turn. Each year on Father’s Day in the Gleason home, the kids get Joe the same thing: the daily paper and a beer! Truly it’s the simple things in life that make Joe happy. Here are some other gift ideas to surprise Dad on his special day:

1. Coupons. Help the kids make coupons that Dad can redeem throughout the year for a reprieve to take out the trash, mow the lawn or do the dishes. Pinterest offers great ideas for coupon designs or websites where you can buy them inexpensively. Just search for “dad coupons.”

2. A favorite meal. With your help, the kids can cook up Dad’s favorite food whether it’s his favorite bowl of cereal served in bed, hamburgers grilled to perfection or filet mignon and lobster. The point is as long as Dad (and his stomach) are happy, it’ll be a great day!

3. The family tree. Your little artists can paint a family tree in the living room wall and hang a framed 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 of each person. For a miniature version of this idea, paint a family tree on a canvas and glue re-sized photos for each loved one.

4. A special video message. Have your kids record a message for Dad sharing a favorite memory or the top three things they love the most about him. Then, post it on Facebook and be sure to tag Dad so he sees this touching gift.
